FOUNDER · MICROBIOLOGIST · BIOINFORMATICIAN
Rubén Javier López, PhD
From laboratory experiments to biological interpretation.
I am a microbiologist and the founder of Tailoredomics. My work brings together experimental research and bioinformatics, with a focus on microbial genomes, communities and gene expression.
I have carried research projects from experimental design through laboratory work, data analysis and publication. That experience shapes how I approach each dataset: understanding the biological question, how the data were generated and what the results can support.

Research and professional experience
Tailoredomics · Bioinformatics services
Since 2025, I have provided biological data analysis through Tailoredomics, including microbial genome assembly and annotation, comparative genomics, metagenomics, microbiome analysis and differential gene expression.
University of Bergen · Microbial research
As a researcher (2018–2021) and PhD fellow (2021–2025), I combined molecular microbiology with sequencing and computational analysis. My doctoral research investigated feather keratin degradation by thermophilic anaerobic bacteria, integrating comparative genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics.
This work included DNA and RNA extraction, Illumina library preparation, analysis of Illumina, Oxford Nanopore and PacBio sequencing data, genome assembly, gene analysis and student supervision.
Collaborative and earlier laboratory work
During a 2019–2020 collaboration with the Gade Laboratory for Pathology and the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers (CCBIO), I worked on microbiome and mycobiome data analysis. Earlier roles at INCLIVA and IVIA included molecular biology, cell culture and biochemical analysis.
Areas of expertise
Microbial genomics: genome assembly and annotation, comparative genomics, pangenomes and functional interpretation.
Microbiomes and metagenomics: microbial community analysis, diversity, taxonomic profiling and genome recovery.
Transcriptomics and proteomics: differential gene expression, protein-level evidence and interpretation in a biological context.
My practical toolkit includes Linux and command-line workflows, R, DESeq2, QIIME2, DADA2, phyloseq, and microbial assembly and annotation software.
Selected publications
These papers illustrate the research behind my work in microbial genomics, integrated omics and microbial community analysis.

Working with me
Through Tailoredomics, you work directly with me to define the question, plan the analysis and discuss the results. I bring the perspective of someone who has worked with both the samples and the data.
